Do I need to have my car
modified?
No. Some cars prefer a
blend of biodiesel and normal diesel, but by and large you can just
fill up and drive.
Will I notice any
differences?
Probably not. Fuel
consumption is about the same, you may notice that your engine is a
fraction quieter. Some people find that cold starting is a bit
slower but it runs fine when it's warmed up a bit.
Do I need to take any
precautions?
Biodiesel is a better
solvent than normal diesel, so in older vehicles there is a chance
that deposits in your fuel system will get dissolved out and end up
in your fuel filter. We've never known anyone have a problem but
it's wise to check after you've been running biodiesel for a while.
Will my car smell of
chips?
Sometimes when you start a
cold engine you will get a smell of frying for a few seconds until
the exhaust warms up. After that you probably won't be able to
smell anything.
Can I mix biodiesel with
normal diesel?
Yes.
Why is it cheaper than
normal diesel?
Because the fuel duty is
less:- 27.1p/litre instead of 47.1p/litre.
Will it affect the life
of my engine?
Biodiesel is a better
lubricant than normal diesel, also it does not contain sulphur or
other corrosive components like petroleum diesel does. Most people
who have been running biodiesel for a long time report much reduced
engine wear. There are horror stories around but they can normally
be traced to badly made fuel. All of our biodiesel conforms to the
appropriate EC standards.
Are there any problems in
the winter?
Biodiesel has a higher
gelling temperature than petroleum diesel which means that it could
gel in cold weather. The solution is to mix a little petroleum
diesel in your tank or use the special winterising additive that we
sell. We can advise you how much of either you need to use.
